A Brief History Of Reiki...

DR. MIKAO USUI

Reiki is believed to have ancient roots, with traces found in Tibet over 10,000 years ago, and influences in India, Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, and among indigenous cultures. However, much of this knowledge was lost over time until it was rediscovered in the early 1900s by a Japanese scholar named Dr. Mikao Usui.

Usui found an ancient Sanskrit text that described healing symbols, but it lacked the method to activate their energy. Seeking answers, he embarked on a 21-day meditation on Mount Kurama. On the final day, he experienced a powerful vision and spiritual awakening, reconnecting with the full energy of Reiki.

Afterwards, Usui established a Reiki school and developed a gradual system of training and attunements.

One of his key students, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, opened a clinic in Tokyo, where a Hawaiian woman named Hawayo Takata was healed. Inspired by her recovery, Takata learned Reiki and brought it to the West, teaching hundreds and eventually training 22 Reiki Masters.

Of these, only Barbara Weber Ray learned the complete 7-level system. To preserve its integrity, she named it The Radiance Technique and began training teachers worldwide.

One of her students, Gary Samer, later became a Grand Master Teacher and passed the full system on to a select few, including Grand Master Alex Topic who taught Rachael Adams who now teaches from The Blue Mountains, Australia.

The traditional Reiki system includes seven practitioner levels, and three Master Teacher levels. Once completed, each level is certified.
